The Shark HydroVac collects dirty water in a separate tank. This tank sees some of the nastiest debris: food particles, pet accidents, and floor grime. If not cleaned regularly, it becomes a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.

Here is how to keep it clean and odor-free.

1. After Every Use: Empty and Rinse

Immediate Steps

  1. Unplug the HydroVac.
  2. Remove the dirty water tank.
  3. Empty the contents into a toilet or sink.
  4. Rinse with warm running water.
  5. Shake out excess water.
  6. Leave the tank detached and open to air dry.

DO NOT leave dirty water sitting in the tank overnight. This is the #1 cause of bad odors.

2. Weekly Deep Clean

Supplies Needed

  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Soft brush or sponge

Process

  1. Fill the tank 1/4 full with warm water.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and a drop of dish soap.
  3. Close the tank and shake vigorously.
  4. Use a soft brush to scrub the interior and the filter screen.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  6. Air dry completely before reattaching.

3. Monthly Sanitization

For stubborn odors or visible mold:

  1. Fill the tank with 50% water, 50% white vinegar.
  2. Let it soak for 30 minutes.
  3. Scrub all surfaces with a brush.
  4. Rinse at least 3 times.
  5. Optional: Leave in direct sunlight for UV disinfection.
